The Pairing of Boars

Hi everyone,

This post is for the misunderstandings that people have about boars and pairing them.

So first off, boars are super friendly (well most can be). You may have the odd boar out....like an aggressive one for instance....but it usually is very rare. I say (and other breeders too) that boars can make really great pets for kids and families. When adopting a boar,(or in any case) I find and have heard that the long hairs like peruvians, texels, merinos, and silkies are really great and have a wonderful temperament. The short haired breeds can be a little more....shall we say difficult....not always of course!

Here are some tips when you are introducing 2 or more boars

1. Have a clean wiped down cage (thoroughly) and disinfected...the reason being is so that the other boar(s) that is/are living there already can't proclaim that this is their territory. Especially the bossier boars.

2. I recommend introducing a baby boar to a baby boar or a adult boar to a baby boar...The reason being is that the adult boar has someone to boss around (lol). My teddy boar has no problem with baby boars ...he has a pretty nasty attitude so that is who he likes.

3. Feed them a bowlful of veggies and let them eat together.


Here's signs that they are OK

1. Teeth chattering (yes so normal) as long as he is not circling around the other boar with his hair raised all should be well.

2. Smelling their butt ( totally normal)

3. Grooming and licking (of course!)

Here are some signs that are BAD

1. Teeth chattering AND he is circling around the other boar with his hair raised

2. Lunging

3. Showing their teeth

4. Trying to bite

IF ANY OF THE FOLLOWING OCCURS BE SURE TO SEPARATE THE BOARS WITH A TOWEL.
